Finally on April 20th I received my February 2009's salary cheque. Rest waits. Let me clear my dues first.

Battle of Salaries - Part 3

1. This one was easier. I went to the bill section and displayed the paper I was given from the registrar office and I was asked to see the absent person in the audit section. I was pretty desperate by then and asked if I could see somebody else that would help. Well he said that anybody in the audit section may help.

2. Went to the audit section. One person was reading newspaper and he listened to me carefully. Then he asked me if I knew where my bill was as he couldn't interfere with the work of another person who was, say, on a vacation.

3. I had no idea so I went back to the bill section. The man there surprised me by taking my bill out and accompanying me back to the audit section. Then after some more exchange of words the two sections agreed that my bill should proceed further - to the audit officer.

4. Returning via the bill section I asked the helpful man if I needed to see the audit officer. He said that if the audit section has no problem the audit officer won't have either. I saw his point and retired for the day.

Battle of Salaries - 2

1. Went to the dispatch section - the person in charge didn't get anything from the register office next room. She looked surprised that I was looking for my salary.

Looking for salary for a research fellow is a crime. They should be borrowing, begging or stealing.


2. Went to the register office. Was offered tea and biscuit. I was amazed to see their hospitality. I should have worked free. Anyways, the person in charge was kind enough to let me have a xerox copy of the circular. If I myself do not carry the papers from one division to the other, they never reach. They get lost traveling even to the next room.

3. The circular didn't look the way I was told from the bill section. It was slightly modified from it's original form from the Bikash Bhaban in December 2008. The question is - will this serve my purpose?

4. It was already tiffin time already so went to the bill section later. The man in charge who was holding my bill was absent.

5. Went to the audit section but the person I need to meet is on a long vacation.

The Bengali New year is on 15th and I do not have money to buy even a pair of socks. I can't buy anything for the family. Thank God I am not married.

I see why people in academic research are mostly singles.

Battle of ID - Finished

1. Went to the ID card section. Nobody was there. Waited around 15 minutes for somebody to appear. It was around 12.30pm. Then went to the staff canteen and got the person in charge of IDs. The person seemed sympathetic, Asked me to come back around 4pm.

2. Went there at 4 pm and received ID card. Was successful at the 8th attempt.

Battle of Salaries - 1

1. Went 6th time for renewal of ID card that expired in December 2008. Some progress were made but I still don't have my ID card. Took me about 45 minutes.

2. Went to the bill section, talked to everyone there. They said they were still to receive the circular by our registrar so they have not yet processed my salary bill. last time I received salary was in early February, 2009. They directed me to somebody in the audit section who was, as usual, absent.

3. Went to the registrar office where I was shown a copy of a circular dated 25.03.2009. and I was told that this has been sent to the despatch section. 

4. There exists no despatch section right now as an office shifting procedure is going on. They will soon start operating and I have to come back and check why the circular is taking around half a month now to travel to the immediate next division. If required I shall either have to find out my own circular from within the mess there or have to start afresh from the registrar's office about a month ago. 

The reason behind - the beginning

When I joined my PhD I had dreams... an impression that I was going to do something really great. I had everything... youth, motivation, inspiration, enthusiasm, family, friends, dream, hope and more. I traded everything I had for something I still may have... a PhD.
